In 2021, STADLER has the successful Treasure Pro motorcycle jacket and Quest Pro motorcycle pants launched. This laminated jacket and pants are of course 100% waterproof thanks to the 3-layer Gore-Tex material, so you will arrive at your destination dry. But how does STADLER ensure that you also stay cool during warmer conditions? STADLER has developed the patented STADLER Air Scoop System (abbreviated: SASS) for this purpose. In this article you will read more about the different ventilation options in Gore-Tex motorcycle clothing, and we will explain this relatively new form of ventilation in more detail.
In many motorcycle clothing, the air supply is regulated by means of ventilation zippers, usually on the chest or arms with a jacket and on the thighs with motorcycle pants. Behind these ventilation zippers there is often a mesh lining and in some cases also a (removable) waterproof membrane. When this waterproof layer is not removable (also called Z-liner), we talk about indirect ventilation. When the ventilation zipper is opened, air will continue to circulate between the waterproof layer and the wear-resistant outer layer of the motorcycle jacket. The ventilation value of this is quite limited, which will cause the body temperature to drop to a limited extent.
When the air supply through the ventilation zipper is not limited by a waterproof layer, we speak of direct ventilation. This technique is often applied to modular motorcycle jackets (with removable waterproof membrane) and laminated motorcycle jackets (waterproof layer and wear-resistant layer are glued). Direct ventilation is a lot more effective, as the body temperature will drop faster.
Both direct and indirect ventilation require a strong air flow. Depending on the type of engine, these ventilation zippers have a speed required of +60 kilometers per hour. With a motorcycle with a lot of wind protection such as the BMW RT series, this speed will have to be slightly higher compared to a BMW GS. Logically, with a motorcycle with limited to no wind protection, the speed will be somewhat lower to create effective ventilation in the jacket or pants. The fit, sizing and the height of the motorcyclist also play a role in this.
Normally, the wind protection of all-road and touring motorcycles has an adverse effect on ventilation in motorcycle clothing. STADLER has devised a way to make optimal use of this wind protection with the SASS ventilation method. As the name suggests, the system works with air scoops.
By placing these air scoops in strategic places, the deformations of the air coming from, for example, the handguards and windshield can be used additionally. These air scoops will be open in a wind speed of approximately 30 kilometers per hour and provide effective ventilation even at these lower speeds, so that the rider will cool down faster, even in city traffic.
This way of ventilation is very effective in making a fully waterproof motorcycle jacket feel comfortable on summer days. The system can continue to ventilate even in wet weather. A water drainage has been incorporated within the Airscoop. This ensures that this ventilation method is (splash) waterproof.
Of course, motorcycle clothing that uses the SASS technology (when the ventilation is closed) can also be used excellently in cool temperatures. Additional thermal value can be generated in combination with the SNUG Primaloft jacket or WINGS II softshell midlayer.
In 2021, STADLER has the successful Treasure Pro motorcycle jacket and Quest Pro motorcycle pants launched, the first products using Airscoops. The Treasure and Quest combination are made for adventure motorcyclists. For this reason, the air scoops are placed in the ideal positions to pick up the air flows from an adventure motorcycle. Consider, for example, the handguards, a (large) windshield and the trousers along the outside of the thighs and shins. This also takes into account a possible boxer engine block from, for example, the BMW R1300 GS. In addition to the Airscoops, the Treasure also uses large YKK Aquaseal® zippers on the chest and an extra zipper with mesh material.
After the success of the Treasure and Quest, STADLER has introduced the sporty counterpart in 2022: the Free Sport Pro motorcycle jacket and Air Sport Pro motorcycle pants. STADLER Air Scoop System has been placed in a different location. The decision was made to place these zippers more along the side of the chest and to let them run longer. Due to the stretch material under the armpits and shoulders, the Free Sport Pro can be considered a comfortable, slim-Fit Gore-Tex Pro Motorcycle Jacket. This combination is therefore slightly more aimed at the sporty tour rider, for example the rider who chooses a BMW S1000XR instead of the GS. This combination has recently been discovered MOTOPLUS named as Test Winner in the Textile Combi's test.
The Free Sport Pro uses the patented STADLER Air Scoop System (SASS).
The Gore-Tex Pro suit from STADLER has won the Motoplus product test: 'All-round textile combinations'. With a score of 90/100, both the jacket and trousers perform best, thanks to the SASS Ventilation, good fit and excellent protection. The successful one Treasure Pro from STADLER is a 3-layer laminate motorcycle jacket that uses the innovative SASS ventilation system. This makes the 100% jacket waterproof but still usable during warmer days. The jacket is aimed at the adventure / tour motorcyclist where freedom of movement and safety are central. Watertightness and top-level ventilation are also important features.
The most unique thing about this jacket is the ventilation method. The air supply is not only controlled by the large YKK Aquaseal® zippers but also by the new SASS technology. These are essentially air scoops that are placed in a strategic location so that they pick up the ideal airflow from an adventure motorcycle. These air scoops will be open in a wind speed of approximately 30 kilometers per hour and provide 360 degree ventilation within the jacket. This way of ventilation is very effective in making a fully waterproof motorcycle jacket feel comfortable on summer days. In addition, the Treasure jacket - when the ventilation is closed - can also be used in cool temperatures in combination with the SNUG Primaloft jacket or WINGS II softshell midlayer.
The Treasure Pro STADLER jacket is equipped with CE level 2 Sas-Tec protection on the shoulders, elbows and back. A total of 5 pockets: an inner pocket, chest pocket, mesh pocket on the lower back and two removable waterproof ones Gore Tex pockets on the front. Two spiral zippers are used to close the jacket. These zippers are also suitable for off-road use. This textile motorcycle jacket is available in the color scheme light gray/grey/black and now also in a black color scheme with a subtle red logo.
The jacket is of course available in regular, extended and shortened sizes: 48 – 62, 98 – 118 (extended), 25 – 31 (shortened) and for ladies in sizes: 36 – 46, 76 – 84 (extended). 19 – 24(abridged).
As always with STADLER, different color combinations and customization are possible.

STADLER works exclusively with the waterproof membrane: GORE-TEX®. In terms of waterproofing, this is unparalleled. Do you ride a motorcycle professionally, travel a lot of kilometers to and from work, or are you a fanatical motorcyclist who simply wants the best? Then Gore-Tex is what you are looking for!
The Gore-Tex waterproof membrane consists of microscopic pores, which are many times smaller than a raindrop, so rain cannot pass through the membrane. Perspiration droplets, however, are much smaller and can easily pass through the membrane. The result is waterproof motorcycle clothing with a good breathability. So you will be less likely to suffer from a damp coat.
– Laminate: Gore-Tex Pro (laminated membrane)
– Z-liner: Gore-Tex Performance Shell (solid membrane)
– LTD liner: Gore-Tex Liner-to-drop (removable membrane)
With a laminated product, the membrane is ''stuck'' to the outer layer of the jacket. As a result, the product will not absorb water. A distinction is made between 2-layer and 3-layer laminate. With 2-layer laminate, only the materials GTX and Cordura are used. With 3-layer (abbreviated 3L) laminate, there is an extra layer incorporated on the inside. This makes the motorcycle clothing a lot more durable. The 3L system is the only Gore-Tex type of laminate that STADLER offers. Simply because it is the best. 3-layer laminate is also called Gore-Tex Pro. With Gore-Tex 3L motorcycle clothing, the outer layer is often made of Cordura. This is a very wear-resistant fabric that is characterized as a durable fabric.
In this variant, the waterproof membrane is between the outer layer and the lining of the jacket. This is partly stitched and therefore cannot be removed from the jacket. Because this is not glued, the product is more flexible than, for example, a laminated motorcycle jacket or motorcycle pants. It is also a less complex manufacturing process, which means that this type of membrane is often more favorably priced. However, the ventilation options are limited and the outer layer of the clothing will absorb water when it rains, which will result in a heavier jacket.
With the Gore-Tex LTD membrane, both the inner lining and the waterproof membrane can be removed. Because the Gore-Tex waterproof jacket can be zipped out, you can create a summer and winter jacket. When the waterproof layer is removed, the jacket will allow more air to pass through, increasing the ventilation options. However, the jacket will also let rain through during an occasional shower. At STADLER there is often a storage compartment for this waterproof inner jacket at the back. With STADLER clothing it is also possible to wear the waterproof GTX layer over the clothing.

With the Treasure Pro jacket and the Quest Pro pants, the motorcycle clothing specialist STADLER from Germany presents a new textile motorcycle suit. This suit has the new SASS ventilation system, several large pockets and a comfortable fit. This suit is suitable for all travel and weather conditions, even off-road.
The outer layer of this suit is made of 3-layer Gore-Tex laminate. This so-called 3L system will not absorb water, but it does process outgoing perspiration.
This new motorcycle suit also includes the STADLER Air Scoop System (SASS, patented). This system works using air scoops that can be opened using a waterproof zipper. When these are unzipped, they will automatically expand due to the wind, similar to a parachute. This system will capture fresh air and guide it through the entire jacket and trousers. By using the 3L waterproof membrane and this patented ventilation system, this motorcycle suit can be worn in various weather conditions.
''With the new Treasure Pro and Quest Pro we have pulled out all the stops. We wanted to develop a suit that could withstand all possible events during a tour. Breathable in the summer but also completely waterproof and warm when necessary." Hans Jürgen Stadler, owner of STADLER GMBH.
The Treasure Pro jacket is equipped with CE-level 2 protection on the shoulders, elbows and back. A total of 11 vents and a total of 5 pockets: an inner pocket, a chest pocket, a mesh pocket on the lower back and two removable waterproof pockets on the front. Two spiral zippers are used to close the jacket. These zippers are also suitable for off-road use.
The Quest Pro pants are equipped with CE-level 2 protection on the hip and knees. Two exterior pockets and another two large cargo pockets. The pants are ventilated by no fewer than 6 ventilation zippers and due to the elastic waistband and various stretch points, these motorcycle pants offer enough freedom of movement for both normal use and off-road rides.
"Of course, freedom of movement should not come at the expense of safety, which is why, in addition to the protective Cordura fabric, we have also used the highly wear-resistant ARMACOR material in the critical zones of both the jacket and trousers." Ilona Wiener, Responsible for STADLER's marketing.
Together the Treasure Pro & Quest Pro make the new top model in the STADLER 3-layer line up. This is mainly due to the SASS ventilation system, which means the suit can be worn in both summer and winter and – unlike Modul Evo, Active and Vision – no membranes need to be transported separately.
This textile suit is available in the color scheme light grey/grey/black and sizes: 48 – 62, 98 – 118, 25 – 31 and for ladies in sizes: 36 – 46, 76 – 84, 19 – 24. As always With STADLER, different color combinations and customization are possible.
